Delta gov rewards Spelling Bee world champion with N20m

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori celebrated a significant academic achievement by rewarding Great Chinedu Okediachi with N20 million for winning the World Spelling Bee Championship in Shanghai, China. The governor presented the student with the trophy and a certificate of achievement at the Government House in Asaba.

Oborevwori emphasized that Okediachi's triumph highlights the effectiveness of the state's educational investments. He also pledged support for Madonna International School, Okediachi's alma mater, recognizing its role in fostering the student's success. The governor asserted that education is the most valuable legacy, offering lifelong benefits unlike transient wealth.

We don’t play with education in Delta State because it is the greatest legacy anyone can give to a child. Wealth can disappear, but education remains with you throughout your lifetime. That is why we continue to invest heavily in education.

This victory adds to Delta State's growing international academic accolades. Governor Oborevwori recalled that students from the state were part of Nigeria's winning team at the World Schools Debate Championship in Doha, Qatar, last year. He noted that these successes demonstrate the positive impact of the state's commitment to education.

The Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu, lauded the win as a landmark achievement for Delta State, Nigeria, and Africa. He attributed the success to the student's dedication and the state government's consistent support throughout the competition.
