Delta’s Izeze: From commissioner’s office to custody

Delta State Commissioner for Works, Reuben Izeze, faces a dramatic turn of events, having been suspended and remanded at the Warri correction center. His arraignment stems from a violent incident involving Simon Mudi, an aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, also known as Temple.

The confrontation occurred during a Delta Central All Progressives Congress stakeholders’ meeting at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI). While Governor's Executive Assistant on Politics, Jennifer Adasen, described the meeting as peaceful, the subsequent violence has overshadowed its original purpose.

On that day, he came again with over 50 boys. In fact, what really happened was that I was on my way to eat with my watchmen. When my associate called me that he saw a signal they had brought a lot of boys to attack me, immediately I dropped the call and saw about 12 boys who came to attack me. Before I could say anything, they started breaking bottles everywhere, stabbing me from the back, stabbing me everywhere. Everyone was running. I couldn’t even defend myself

Simon Mudi has spoken publicly about the incident, alleging he was attacked by a group of men while on his way to eat. He claims they broke bottles and stabbed him multiple times, requiring eleven stitches. Mudi also asserted that he had been attacked previously during a burial ceremony, alleging a commissioner's involvement, though this has not been substantiated by a court.

The legal process is now underway, but the incident raises questions about what transpired at the PTI and the motives behind the violent confrontation that has led to the commissioner's current predicament.
