DEM Party MP calls Mazlum Abdi's appointment as advisor 'dishonorable'

Sinan Çiftyürek, a Member of Parliament for the DEM Party in Van, has strongly condemned the appointment of Mazlum Abdi, the commander of the now-dissolved Syrian Democratic Forces (SDG), as an advisor to Ahmed Şara, the leader of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTŞ).

Çiftyürek took to social media to express his disapproval, calling the appointment "dishonorable." He argued that such a position would not only be a political disgrace for Abdi but would also lead to his political marginalization, a outcome he suggested Turkey desires. He asserted that Kurdish political figures, including Abdi and Ilham Ahmed, should refrain from accepting roles within the Syrian government or its higher bureaucracy unless the government fundamentally alters its stance on recognizing Kurds as a nation and respects Kurdish language rights.

The DEM Party official highlighted that HTŞ leadership opposes the recognition of Kurds as a distinct nation and insists on teaching Kurdish only as an elective subject. Çiftyürek believes that Abdi accepting a role under Şara, given these positions, undermines the Kurdish cause and compromises the political integrity of Kurdish representatives.
