Democratic Labor Way Party Elects Braij for Second Term

Morocco's Democratic Labor Way Party has renewed its confidence in Jamal Braij, electing him as Secretary-General for a second term. The decision came late Saturday, the second day of the party's sixth national congress.

Braij, who first assumed leadership in 2022, succeeding the late Mustapha Brahima, was re-elected by the party's central committee, which then selected the political bureau. The congress, held at the Yaacoub El Mansour theater in Rabat, was attended by delegations from various political groups, including the Federation of the Democratic Left, the Unified Socialist Party, and the Justice and Charity group. Activists sympathetic to the Polisario Front also attended.

The party, which added "Labor" to its name at its fifth congress, aims to build a party for the working class and all laborers. Its stated goals include achieving national sovereignty and self-determination for the Moroccan people, alongside democratic construction. The opposition party reiterated its decision to boycott legislative elections in July, calling them "sham elections" and urging citizens to participate in a "conscious boycott."
