US House Democrats are developing a comprehensive investigative strategy focusing on companies and financial firms connected to President Donald Trump, should they secure a majority in the upcoming midterm elections. This plan prioritizes examining Trump's business and political orbit over immediate impeachment efforts.

Senior Democrats and committee aides have discussed employing hearings, subpoenas, and document requests to gather records from entities tied to Trump. This strategy is based on the belief that investigating private companies and financial players will yield more substantial results than confronting a White House expected to resist oversight. The approach reflects a lesson learned from Trump's first term, where impeachment proceedings consumed Congress and allowed him to portray himself as a victim of partisan attacks.

"We're not going into this to impeach," a senior Democratic aide stated, reflecting the party leadership's thinking. "No one wants a failed vote on day one. The focus is on building a body of evidence through investigations that can hold Trump accountable."
