Shapovalov achieved his fourth career title at the Los Cabos Open last year, winning without dropping a set and reaching world No. 28. He believes that if he can find his rhythm, he can be a formidable opponent. "If I can make everything click, I can be a dangerous player. I trust that I can find my game to be a difficult tennis player to face," he said.

Currently ranked 68th in the world, Shapovalov's best career ranking was world No. 10 in September 2020. He will begin his title defense against Australia's Rinky Hijikata at the Cabo Sports Complex during the tournament's tenth anniversary.
