Deployed Danish soldiers and families get free entry to Tivoli on Flag Day

On Flag Day, September 5, Danish soldiers who have been deployed abroad within the past year and are participating in the parade at Christiansborg Palace Square will receive a special honor. They and their families will be granted free admission to the popular amusement park, Tivoli Gardens, following the official ceremony.

The offer, extended by Tivoli Gardens, includes not only park entry but also ride passes for the entire family. This initiative aims to provide a shared, enjoyable experience for the soldiers and their loved ones as a token of gratitude for their service and the sacrifices made during their deployments. The Danish Defence Command sees this as an opportunity to enhance the recognition of both the deployed personnel and their families.

"An international deployment involves strain, uncertainty, and deprivation, which is why it is wonderful that we, together with Tivoli, can provide families with the setting for a shared, pleasant conclusion to Flag Day," said Peter H. Boysen, Head of the Army Command. To facilitate participation, the Defence is also arranging overnight accommodation in selected Copenhagen hotels for the soldiers before and after the event, and will cover transportation costs.

While previously, veterans with a veteran card also received free entry to Tivoli on Flag Day, this offer did not extend to family members or include ride passes. Flag Day, observed annually since 2009, serves to honor and recognize men and women from the Danish Defence and other authorities who have served abroad. The day is marked by official events in Copenhagen and local observances nationwide.
