Deportivo La Guaira transfers Diego Osío and loans Jorge Gutiérrez to foreign clubs

Venezuelan club Deportivo La Guaira has confirmed the departure of two key players: central defender Diego Osío and full-back Jorge Gutiérrez. Osío is transferring to Iraqi Premier League club Al Zarwaa, while Gutiérrez will join Peruvian club Universitario de Deportes on loan.

Osío, 29, brings experience from the Venezuelan national team, having debuted in March. He has prior experience in Iraqi football, having played minutes against the Iraqi national team during a friendly match prior to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. His move to Al Zarwaa marks a new chapter in his career.

Gutiérrez, 27, recently represented Panama in the 2026 World Cup, playing 89 minutes in their match against England. He now moves to Universitario de Deportes, a club renowned for its success in the Peruvian First Division, having won the last three championships.

Both players arrived at Deportivo La Guaira in 2023 and 2021, respectively. Gutiérrez accumulated 125 appearances, scoring five goals and providing 18 assists, according to Transfermarkt. Osío played 24 matches, contributing two goals and one assist. Neither player won a title with Deportivo La Guaira, though the team finished atop the accumulated table in the 2026 Torneo Apertura.

Coach Héctor Pablo Bidoglio acknowledged Gutiérrez's strong performance, stating his departure was anticipated. The club had already secured Matías Orihuela as a replacement before Gutiérrez's move was finalized. Following Osío's transfer, the team is evaluating potential new signings to strengthen the squad for the remainder of the Liga Futve Torneo Clausura.
