Designer Juozas Statkevičius Slams Lithuania's Backwardness After Seeing Liepaja's Toilets

Renowned Lithuanian designer Juozas Statkevičius has publicly criticized the state of public facilities in the popular Lithuanian seaside resort of Palanga. During a visit to Liepaja, Latvia, Statkevičius documented the clean and well-equipped beach toilets and changing cabins, highlighting them as a model for his home country.

In a series of videos, Statkevičius showcased the amenities in Liepaja, pointing out features like separate foot-washing stations and functional showers. "Look, what showers, toilets, everything is done," he stated, directly addressing the Palanga mayor. "I came specifically to show how everything is done. Please, excellent toilets, so what if there's sand, everyone goes. Order depends on people, Lithuanians are a bit shitty, but what can you do, since there are no toilets, what can you do." He contrasted this with the perceived lack of such facilities in Palanga.

Statkevičius expressed shame over the disparity, writing, "Shame on Palanga's mayor, Lithuania is behind, Shame! Everything is in Liepaja." This is not the first time the designer has voiced concerns about Palanga's infrastructure. Previously, he highlighted the lack of basic conveniences in the resort town. The mayor of Palanga responded to Statkevičius's earlier complaints by suggesting the designer sell his property in the resort and relocate, perhaps to Italy.
