Destry Damayanti Appointed Interim Governor of Bank Indonesia

Destry Damayanti, the Senior Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), has been appointed as the Interim Governor following the resignation of Perry Warjiyo. The decision was made during a Board of Governors meeting on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Damayanti, who was born in Jakarta in 1963, brings a wealth of experience in macroeconomics to the role.

Damayanti's career began as a Senior Economic Adviser to the British Ambassador to Indonesia from 2000 to 2003. She holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Indonesia and a Master of Science in Regional Science from Cornell University in New York, USA. She also served as a researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, University of Indonesia, from 2005 to 2006.

Her professional journey continued with significant positions in the private sector, including Chief Economist at Mandiri Sekuritas from 2005 to 2011 and Chief Economist at Bank Mandiri from 2011 to 2015. In government roles, she was the Head of the Economic Task Force at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises from 2014 to 2015 and served as a member of the Board of Commissioners for the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) from 2015 to 2019.

Since 2019, Damayanti has served two terms as Senior Deputy Governor of BI, a position that includes representing the governor and serving as a member of the Board of Governors. Her appointment as interim governor comes as the central bank cited "personal reasons" for Perry Warjiyo's departure. Damayanti's total wealth was reported at Rp 100.24 billion in 2025.
