Detained union members released, but expert held amid protest against holding

Workers from the Independent Mining- İş Union, who were detained on the fourth day of their protest outside the Energy Ministry, have been released. However, the union's organization expert, Başaran Aksu, continues to be held in custody.

The union stated on social media that all miners except Aksu have been freed. Aksu is reportedly being held on charges of "inciting public hatred and enmity" and is expected to give a statement today. The union alleges that Yıldızlar SSS Holding has been allowed by the Energy Ministry to plunder the country for 20 years, operating in various sectors and allegedly defrauding workers, the public, and municipalities.

"Detaining miners for two days and threatening to arrest Başaran Aksu in our struggle against this exploitative holding will not intimidate us; it only reveals the ministers' stance," the union declared. They claim that Minister Alparslan Bayraktar has consistently avoided engaging with the miners, preferring to meet with the holding's management. This, they argue, has fueled their ongoing struggle.

The union vowed not to leave Ankara until the workers receive their rightful dues and vowed to continue their fight. They are demanding the immediate release of Başaran Aksu, the nationalization of Yıldızlar SSS Holding, and the payment of workers' claims by the ministry that has allegedly enriched the holding.
