Devastating fire engulfs luxury hotel in Dominican Republic

A fierce fire ravaged the Viva Dominicus hotel in Bayahíbe, a coastal resort town in the Dominican Republic, on Friday. The blaze consumed a significant portion of the tourist complex, prompting the swift evacuation of hundreds of guests.

Videos of the incident, which quickly went viral on social media, showed large plumes of smoke rising against a backdrop of palm trees and clear water. The fire reportedly spread rapidly through structures featuring traditional cane and straw roofs, common in parts of the vacation center.

Local media reported that one person was rushed to the hospital, though their condition remains unknown. Emergency services, including 11 fire units and personnel from the 911 System, responded to the scene. Despite the early arrival of firefighters, the blaze continued to advance until it was contained.

Authorities have not yet issued an official report detailing the cause of the fire or the extent of the material damage. No fatalities or serious injuries have been officially reported. Neighboring hotels have not been informed of any potential operational suspensions, and a surveillance operation remains active in the area.
