Dhaka Boosts Security for July Uprising Day Anniversary

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has significantly tightened security across the capital in preparation for the second anniversary of July Uprising Day. The enhanced measures aim to ensure public safety and prevent any potential disruptions during the commemorations.

Security arrangements include an increased number of police pickets and checkposts, particularly at entry points to Dhaka. Plainclothes personnel from the Detective Branch and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit will be deployed at key locations. Special operations involving SWAT, the Bomb Disposal Unit, and the Dog Squad will be conducted in areas expected to draw large crowds. Surveillance has been bolstered through CCTV cameras and drones, with intelligence teams and Quick Response Teams on standby.

In addition to the general security enhancements, specific measures have been implemented at metro rail stations. Fifty personnel from the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) have been deployed across 10 of the 16 stations since yesterday. This deployment, requested due to insufficient existing manpower, aims to ensure passenger safety and prevent sabotage. The APBN personnel will remain in place until August 31.

The police are urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activities immediately. The DMP emphasized that all program venues, including July memorial sites, are under enhanced security surveillance.
