DHB: U18 handball juniors in a gold rush: U18 are European champions

Germany's U18 handball team has been crowned European champions, dominating Slovenia 36-27 in the final held in Belgrade. This latest triumph for the German Handball Federation (DHB) underscores a remarkable period of success for its junior programs.

The team, coached by Erik Wudtke, showed resilience after a nervous start and an early deficit. Their aggressive defense proved effective, forcing numerous turnovers and turning the tide to lead 15-11 by halftime. Tobias Dengler, the DHB goalkeeper, made crucial saves, contributing significantly to extending the lead to 20-11 in the second half, effectively deciding the match.

This gold medal follows a series of recent victories for German youth teams. The U20 women's team won the World Championship in early July, and the U19 women's team secured the European Championship last year. On the men's side, both the U17 and U19 teams claimed World Championship titles in the previous year, highlighting a strong pipeline of talent.
