Di María hails Argentina's 'legends' after World Cup final defeat to Spain

Ángel Di María, a celebrated figure in Argentine football, offered words of encouragement to his former national teammates following their narrow 1-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final. Di María, affectionately known as 'El Fideo,' retired from the national team in mid-2024, making the 2026 final a poignant moment for reflection on his illustrious international career. He was not the only member of the 2022 championship-winning squad to rally behind the team. Paulo Dybala and Marcos Acuña also shared messages of gratitude and support.

Spain secured their second World Cup title thanks to a goal from Ferran Torres in the 106th minute of extra time. The Spanish team, managed by Luis de la Fuente, dominated the match but struggled to find the net until Torres's decisive strike, which followed a header from Nico Williams after a cross from Pedro Porro.
