Diaspora's Expertise: A Strong Lever for Morocco's Major Development Projects

Morocco is celebrating the National Day for Moroccans Abroad with the theme 'Moroccans Abroad in Service of Major National Development Projects 2030.' This occasion aims to showcase the significant role of Moroccan expatriates and acknowledge their contributions across scientific, economic, technological, and cultural sectors. It also serves to identify and address the challenges faced by the diaspora, fostering a stronger connection between citizens abroad and national development efforts.

Moroccans abroad are an essential partner in Morocco's 2030 development projects, so I see that the theme of the National Day for Moroccans Abroad this year reflects an important direction towards making Moroccans abroad an active partner in the national development process.

The celebration emphasizes the development of communication and support mechanisms to increase the engagement of Moroccans living abroad in national development projects. The focus is on leveraging the expertise, skills, and accumulated experiences of the diaspora to drive the country's strategic initiatives. This approach recognizes the diaspora as a crucial partner in achieving Morocco's ambitious development goals for 2030.

Ahmad El Mallouli, coordinator of the 'Moroccans in the UAE' group, stated that Moroccans abroad are essential partners in Morocco's 2030 development projects. He believes the national day's theme reflects a significant shift towards actively involving the diaspora. El Mallouli stressed that the diaspora's role extends beyond financial remittances and investments; it includes transferring expertise, fostering economic and scientific partnerships, promoting Morocco, and contributing to knowledge, technology, and innovation transfer.

He called for more effective mechanisms to connect these competencies with national institutions, companies, and projects. To facilitate the diaspora's contribution to the 2030 vision, he suggested simplifying procedures, easing investment processes, enhancing communication, and establishing practical platforms to link Moroccan talents abroad with the country's development needs.

Hicham Oudads, Secretary-General of the Peace Federation for Moroccans Residing Abroad, affirmed the diaspora's prominent and effective role in advancing current and future projects as Morocco prepares for its 2030 ambitions. He noted that active engagement involves participating in community mobilization and promoting the importance of these projects. Oudads added that this active involvement includes investing in major projects, utilizing human capital expertise, and channeling financial resources into the national economy by establishing Moroccan companies that stimulate economic growth and reinvest their profits domestically.
