Morocco Celebrates 47th Anniversary of Wadi al-Dahab Recovery

Morocco is celebrating the 47th anniversary of the recovery of the Wadi al-Dahab region, a moment marked by national enthusiasm and comprehensive mobilization. This event is a luminous milestone in the nation's journey to complete its independence and achieve its sacred territorial unity.

The High Commission for Former Resistance Members and Liberation Army Members stated that delegations of scholars, dignitaries, and tribal elders from Wadi al-Dahab arrived in Rabat on August 14, 1979. They renewed their allegiance to the late King Hassan II, expressing their deep attachment to the Alawite throne and their loyalty to the current monarch. They affirmed their commitment to Moroccan identity and the nation's territorial integrity from Tangier to Lagouira, thwarting the plans of those who oppose the country's territorial unity.

In their pledge of allegiance, the leaders stated, "Our nobles, scholars, dignitaries, men, and women, young and old, have gathered. Our opinion, which cannot be flawed, and our unified word, which cannot be united in error, is to renew to the Commander of the Faithful and Protector of the Nation, our master Hassan II, may God protect him, the allegiance that our fathers and ancestors gave to his fathers and ancestors, may God bless their souls in the abode of peace. We pledge allegiance to him as we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, under the tree of satisfaction. We acknowledge his rule, commit to his obedience, and offer him our counsel at all times. We are his supporters, his helpers, his armies, and his soldiers, loyal to those who are loyal to us and enemies to those who are enemies to us."

This historical moment, part of the Green March, saw King Hassan II address the Sahrawi tribal leaders, saying, "We have received your allegiance today, and we will cherish and embrace it as the most precious and valuable trust. From today, our allegiance is upon your necks, and from today, it is our duty to defend your safety, preserve your security, and always strive to make you happy. We thank God Almighty with the most sincere thanks and abundant praise for completing His grace upon us by uniting the South with the North, joining kinship, and strengthening bonds."

The King symbolically distributed weapons to the Sahrawi tribal delegations, signifying the ongoing struggle to defend territorial unity and ensure security and stability in the recovered southern provinces. Shortly after, the King visited Wadi al-Dahab during the Throne Day celebrations, reinforcing the strong bond between the Alawite throne and the people of this region. Morocco has since focused on building and developing its southern regions, integrating them into national development efforts and asserting its legitimate rights to the world.
