Direct flight connection to open between Frankfurt and Savonlinna next summer

A direct flight route between Frankfurt, Germany, and Savonlinna, Finland, is set to open in the summer of 2027, according to Savonlinnan Seudun Matkailu, a company owned by local tourism businesses and municipalities.

Discover Airlines, a member of the Lufthansa Group, will operate the Frankfurt–Savonlinna–Frankfurt flights. The route will run weekly from June 19 to August 29, 2027, with aircraft capacity for 180 passengers. The flights are scheduled for the night between Saturday and Sunday. The initial schedule shows the flight departing Frankfurt on Saturday at 9:55 p.m., arriving in Savonlinna at 1:55 a.m. on Sunday. The return flight from Savonlinna will depart Sunday at 3:40 a.m., arriving in Frankfurt at 5:30 a.m.

These overnight flight times are designed to leverage Frankfurt's connecting flights and allow travelers to reach Saimaa directly on their first day of vacation. The early departure for the return flight also enables passengers to maximize their last evening in Savonlinna, perhaps for dinner, a sauna, a cruise, or other evening activities.

Marco Götz, Commercial Director at Discover Airlines, noted in a statement that travel to the Nordic countries is highly popular, with booking numbers increasing. He praised Savonlinna as a destination offering a unique Finnish experience. Teemu Ahola, Director of International Operations at Visit Finland, added that the flight connection will improve accessibility to Eastern Finland and create new opportunities for tourism growth in the Savonlinna and Saimaa region. Discover Airlines also plans to fly from Frankfurt to Kajaani during the winter season of 2027–2028.
