Director Yeon Sang-ho Denies Makeup Bias for Jun Ji-hyun in 'The Bequeathed,' Calls Her Look 'Natural'

Director Yeon Sang-ho has refuted claims that actress Jun Ji-hyun received preferential treatment in terms of makeup for his latest film, 'The Bequeathed,' asserting that her distinctive appearance is entirely natural.

Speaking at a cafe in Seoul, Yeon Sang-ho, known for his work on 'Train to Busan' and 'Peninsula,' discussed his collaboration with Jun Ji-hyun. He emphasized that any perceived difference in her on-screen look was not due to special makeup but rather her inherent features. The film, a zombie thriller about survivors in a sealed building facing evolving infected, has garnered significant attention.

'The Bequeathed' has achieved remarkable box office success, surpassing 2 million viewers by its fifth day of release. This rapid ascent makes it one of the year's fastest-grossing Korean films, outpacing even the highly successful 'Zombie Daughter' in 2025 by a full day. The film's strong performance indicates a high level of audience engagement and anticipation.

Adding to its critical acclaim, 'The Bequeathed' was also selected for the Midnight Screening section at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
