Dismissal of Two TNI Soldiers in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case Annulled

An Indonesian military appeals court has cancelled the dismissal of two soldiers convicted in the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus, while also reducing their prison terms.

The Jakarta High Military Court II-06 accepted the appeal filed by four members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Intelligence Body. The ruling, issued on Aug. 20, 2026, changed parts of the lower court’s June 10 decision. The court’s case tracking system published the decision, numbered 56-K/PMT-II/BDG/AL/VI/2026.

For the first defendant, Sergeant Edi Sudarko, the court reduced the sentence from three years in prison and dismissal to two years and six months in prison without dismissal. First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi, the second defendant, received two years in prison instead of the previous two years and six months, also without dismissal.

The appeals panel left the sentences for the other two defendants unchanged. Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo received two years in prison, while First Lieutenant Sami Lakka received one year and six months. All four defendants had appealed on June 10, the day the original verdict was announced.

The lower court had found the four personnel guilty under provisions of Indonesia’s Military Criminal Code. The Advocacy Team for Democracy, which represents Andrie Yunus, criticized the appeal ruling. The report ends as the group begins outlining its response.
