Dodecanese Tourism Demand Remains Strong Amid Global Uncertainty

This year's tourist season is starting in an international environment with many challenges. The increase in travel costs, the economic pressures faced by many households in the main foreign markets, but also the general geopolitical uncertainty, reasonably create a framework of increased attention for all destinations. In this context, the first data for the season for Karpathos are encouraging and allow us to maintain a reserved optimism.

Tasos Milios, the designated municipal councilor for Tourism in Karpathos, reported encouraging early signs for the current season. While acknowledging the challenges posed by increased travel expenses and economic pressures on key international markets, he expressed cautious optimism. Data from the Civil Aviation Authority shows a 21.3% increase in air arrivals at Karpathos airport in May 2026 compared to May 2025, and a 1.8% rise compared to May 2024.

Milios stressed that these are initial figures and cautioned against drawing premature conclusions for the entire season. Karpathos aims to strengthen its position on the international tourism map by attracting visitors seeking authentic experiences and high-quality services. The municipality is actively engaged in tourism promotion, collaborating with airlines and tour operators, participating in international exhibitions, and hosting press and professional delegations from strategic markets. Efforts are also underway to expand air connectivity and extend the season into the autumn, a period that has proven to be very dynamic for the island.
