Donald Trump says he does not believe Vladimir Putin plans to attack NATO territory. “I don’t think Putin will do it. I talk to him. I know him very well. Putin does not want to attack NATO territory,” Trump said.

The U.S. president also confirmed that his envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff were expected to travel to Moscow. He said they would carry a concrete proposal aimed at ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, rather than a series of new proposals.

Trump said the two envoys were going to assess whether there was room for progress in negotiations. “They are two great negotiators. They have done a great job,” he said, adding that “there may be a good opportunity” to reach an agreement.

Trump blamed much of the difficulty in securing a peace deal on the relationship between Putin and Zelenskyy. “It’s a personality problem between Russia and Ukraine. You have President Zelenskyy and President Putin. They really hate each other,” he said.

The negotiations still face unresolved issues, including Moscow’s territorial demands, the future status of occupied areas and security guarantees for Ukraine after the war. Russia has long sought guarantees that Ukraine will not join NATO, while Kyiv insists it has the right to decide its own security and foreign-policy alliances. Questions also remain over how any ceasefire would be sustained and who would guarantee implementation of a peace agreement.
