'Dog barking is too loud'... 50s man who stabbed upstairs neighbor gets 6-year sentence sought

A dispute over noise escalated to violence in Jeju, South Korea, resulting in a six-year prison sentence sought by prosecutors for a man in his 50s. The accused allegedly stabbed his upstairs neighbor following persistent disturbances from the neighbor's dog.

The prosecution requested the sentence, along with 10 years of electronic monitoring and five years of probation, during a hearing at the Jeju District Court. The incident occurred on March 24th when the accused, identified as 'A', confronted 'B', his upstairs neighbor, and allegedly attacked him with a knife.

The defendant did not actually intend to stab the victim, but rather to threaten the victim, who is larger than him.

Defense attorneys argued that the accused did not intend to inflict serious harm, stating his aim was merely to intimidate the larger victim. They also presented evidence that the accused had been receiving counseling for depression related to the ongoing noise issues. In his final statement, the accused expressed remorse and pleaded for leniency. The final sentencing is scheduled for September 10th.
