Man arrested for stabbing patron in Daejeon bar after drink offer refused

A man in his 50s has been arrested after allegedly stabbing another patron multiple times in a bar restroom in Daejeon. The suspect, identified as Mr. G, reportedly told police he intended to kill the victim, Mr. N, after the victim refused his offer to join his table.

The incident occurred around 9:54 p.m. on the previous day in a bar located in a commercial building in Jung-gu, Daejeon. Mr. N was transported to a hospital and is reportedly in critical condition. Mr. G was apprehended by police approximately one hour after the stabbing.

The victim reacted as if he was offended when I suggested joining their table, so I held a grudge and chased him to the restroom, stabbing him several times.

According to police, Mr. G stated that he harbored resentment after the victim reacted negatively to his request to join their group. He then followed the victim to the restroom and attacked him with a knife. The weapon was recovered from the bar's kitchen.

While Mr. G claims the victim was a stranger, police are not yet classifying the act as purely spontaneous. "We need to hear the victim's statement as well, so we cannot definitively conclude it was a spontaneous act and are investigating all possibilities," said Bae In-ho, head of the criminal investigation division at the Jungbu Police Station. Police are considering applying for an arrest warrant for Mr. G.
