Dog Daycare Operators Fined for Abusing Barking Puppy

Two operators of a dog daycare facility in Daejeon, South Korea, have been ordered to pay fines for animal abuse. The Daejeon District Court sentenced the two individuals, identified as 'A' and 'B', to fines of 2 million and 3 million Korean won respectively, for violating the Animal Protection Act and property damage charges.

We did it because it barked at night, thinking that if it didn't sleep during the day, it would sleep at night.

The operators were accused of abusing a dog under their care on 13 separate occasions in June of the previous year. The abuse reportedly occurred because the dog barked at night. Investigations revealed that the operators kicked and pushed the dog while it was lying down or resting.

I hit it because it barked and to make it quiet.

During the investigation, the operators claimed they acted to stop the dog from barking at night, stating they withheld sleep during the day to encourage quiet at night. They also admitted to hitting the dog to silence it.

The victim dog appears to have almost lost its sight due to the crime.

The court, however, found their explanations insufficient and highlighted the severe consequences of their actions. The court noted that the victimized dog appeared to have nearly lost its sight as a result of the abuse. Furthermore, the court emphasized that the operators, who were entrusted with the dog's safety and care, had breached that trust by engaging in abusive behavior. The fines were imposed considering the extent of the harm caused to the animal and the breach of responsibility.

Despite being in a position to be responsible for the safety and management of the victim dog, the crime was committed.
