Dokter Tifa Hospitalized for GERD Flare-up Amid Defamation Case

Dokter Tifa, a suspect in a defamation case concerning President Joko Widodo's diploma authenticity, has been admitted to the Police Hospital in Kramat Jati due to a severe GERD relapse. Her lawyer, Refly Harun, reported that her pre-existing GERD condition flared up because she had not eaten all day and was under significant stress.

"Dokter Tifa has congenital diseases. One of them is GERD, which flared up because she hadn't eaten since morning and was under high stress," Harun said, as quoted by Antara on Friday evening, June 19, 2026. He added that fatigue worsened her condition, leading her to use a wheelchair after an examination at the hospital's emergency department.

Despite her health issues, Dokter Tifa had prepared for her dissertation defense seminar. Harun believes this demanding schedule drained her physically and mentally, increasing her pressure. "Alhamdulillah, the defense proceeded via Zoom, but under immense pressure and discomfort," he stated.

After completing her agenda, medical staff evaluated her health and decided hospitalization was necessary for further monitoring. Harun declined to detail the health of another suspect in the same case, Roy Suryo, saying, "We cannot discuss other people's illnesses. Mas Roy's illness is not specific and quite common. About 30 percent of Indonesians suffer from it."

Both Roy Suryo and Dokter Tifa remained under treatment at the Police Hospital on Friday night, awaiting updates on their health. They underwent medical examinations around 5:55 PM WIB and were taken to the emergency unit under escort from the Polda Metro Jaya. Roy Suryo arrived in a blue-and-white t-shirt and dark gray shorts, raising his fist and saying "Ready" as he exited the detention vehicle. Dokter Tifa followed, wearing an orange detainee vest.
