Dolly Parton’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star replaced after vandalism

Dolly Parton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been replaced after vandals defaced it shortly after the singer’s death. Flowers and candles that fans left at the site surrounded the damaged plaque, where photos showed that her name had been scratched out.

The Hollywood Historic Trust confirmed the repair on Wednesday and said the replacement star would be available for public viewing on Friday. In a statement posted on Instagram, the trust and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said they were “proud to honor the legacy of Dolly Parton with a replacement of her star.” The organization told the BBC that repairs had been planned before the vandalism.

Parton died in Nashville, Tennessee, last week at 80 after a brief battle with cancer. The type of cancer was not disclosed. She was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville alongside her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, who died in March 2025 after nearly 60 years of marriage.

Tributes have appeared well beyond Hollywood. A makeshift memorial stood outside Parton’s home in Brentwood, Tennessee, while flowers and balloons surrounded a bronze statue of her outside the Sevier County Courthouse in Sevierville, her hometown. Her estate has also announced Dollyfest, a two-day festival in Nashville and London in 2027 that will celebrate her legacy after its original 2026 plans were changed.

Parton sold more than 100 million records worldwide and generated more than one billion online streams. Her legacy also includes philanthropy, business ventures, a theme park near her birthplace and Dolly’s Imagination Library, which has provided more than 330 million free books to children around the world.
