Dominican Armed Forces members receive annual salary benefit upon retirement

The Ministry of Defense (MIDE), through the Social Security Institute of the Armed Forces (Issffaa), has disbursed 600 million Dominican pesos to 327 members of the Armed Forces who retired in 2026. This payment corresponds to the benefit of the "Sueldo por Año" (Salary per Year) plan.

Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, highlighted this disbursement as a concrete demonstration of the Armed Forces' commitment to the well-being and social security of those who dedicated their lives to serving the Dominican Republic. He noted that beneficiaries received their funds just five months after retirement, significantly faster than the one-year maximum established in 2024 by the General Staff to ensure the financial sustainability of the plan.

Fernández Onofre explained that the program is funded solely by contributions from active-duty members. He stressed the importance of responsible administration to guarantee its long-term viability. Since September 2024, the ministry has disbursed over 2.7 billion pesos to 3,188 retired military personnel under this plan. These results, he stated, reflect positive outcomes from recent years' decisions to strengthen military social security institutions, despite necessary adjustments and precautionary measures.

"I am a defender and champion of the social security of the military. It must be preserved, and all necessary measures and decisions must continue to be taken to guarantee its transparency, strengthening, and sustainability," Fernández Onofre affirmed. He emphasized the strategic roles of Issffaa and the Armed Forces Retirement and Pension Fund Board as pillars of the military's social protection system, noting their increased financial and institutional strength. Issffaa, he added, is current with its plans and has a sound financial situation, improving its ability to meet commitments to its members.
