Dominican executive sues Yankees for $10 million after bat incident

Stephanie Duluc, a Dominican health executive living in New York, is seeking $10 million in damages from the Yankees and Yankee Stadium after a devastating incident left her severely injured. On June 2, during a game between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians, a bat broke and flew into the stands, striking Duluc in the head with significant force.

The lawsuit alleges that Duluc, 37, suffered a traumatic brain injury, a concussion, persistent debilitating headaches, and sensitivity to light, along with injuries to her hands and neck. She was seated in the fourth row behind home plate, an area known for expensive but potentially dangerous seating.

Duluc, who was attending the game as a guest of her employer, SOMOS Community Care, has reportedly been unable to return to work due to her ongoing symptoms. The complaint describes the incident as "violent and totally avoidable."

The lawsuit specifically targets the Yankees, Yankee Stadium, and companies involved in the stadium's protective netting system, including Promats Athletics and Sportsfield Specialties. It claims the netting installed in front of Duluc's section was "considerably lower" than that in adjacent areas, leaving a gap through which the bat could and did fly.

Commentators during the YES Network broadcast noted the incident, with one remarking, "It was a woman who got hurt. She's already on her feet." The Yankees have not yet commented on the lawsuit.
