Dominican police seize four guns, drugs, and contraband in southern operations

Police in the Dominican Republic's southern region reported seizing four firearms and recovering another weapon over the weekend. The operations, conducted across Barahona, Bahoruco, and Pedernales provinces, also resulted in the confiscation of narcotics, alcoholic beverages, and suspected contraband cigarettes.

One notable arrest involved Yodalis Vargas Vargas, 19, alias Media Libra, accused of stealing a 9mm pistol from a commercial establishment in Vicente Noble. Police reported that Vargas Vargas verbally admitted to taking the weapon when the owner was not paying attention. Agents later recovered the pistol.

In another incident in Neyba, officers apprehended Everst Sirilo Díaz in possession of a 9mm pistol with six rounds. The police report stated Díaz did not present documentation authorizing him to carry the firearm. Additionally, authorities confiscated three homemade firearms, known as "chilenas," in Barahona during coordinated operations with the Public Ministry, though details on their seizure and any related arrests were not specified.

Further operations in Barahona and Pedernales provinces led to the seizure of drugs and contraband goods. In Cabral, Franklin Féliz, 42, was arrested with what police described as approximately 465 grams of narcotics divided into 38 portions. In Oviedo, Pedernales, intelligence agents and the Public Ministry confiscated 298 small bottles of Gold brand rum and six packs of suspected contraband cigarettes. All arrested individuals, seized weapons, drugs, and other evidence were handed over to the Public Ministry for legal proceedings.
