Dominican President to attend Colombian inauguration in Cali

Dominican President Luis Abinader is set to travel to Cali, Colombia, this Friday to participate in the official presidential inauguration of Abelardo de la Espriella. De la Espriella will assume the constitutional presidency of Colombia.

Upon arrival in Cali, President Abinader is scheduled to meet with other heads of state as part of the pre-ceremony agenda. He will also attend the protocolary greetings hosted by the president-elect of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, and his wife, Ana Lucía Pineda, for visiting heads of state, vice presidents, and other invited authorities.

Following these engagements, President Abinader will be present at the transfer of command ceremony where Abelardo de la Espriella will officially become Colombia's constitutional president. Abinader and his delegation are expected to return to the Dominican Republic on Friday evening.

Notably, the Colombian Congress approved the relocation of the inauguration ceremony from Bogotá to Cali. This decision makes Cali the first city outside the capital to host a presidential inauguration in recent Colombian history. The ceremony will take place at the Arena USC, part of the Universidad Santiago de Cali, where the president-elect will take the oath and receive the presidential sash during a joint congressional session.
