Dominican Public Procurement Director Explains Absence from Intrant Trial

Carlos Pimentel, the Director General of Public Procurement, has clarified his absence from a trial related to the National Institute of Land Transit and Transport (Intrant) case. Pimentel was scheduled to appear as a witness in the proceedings, which involve allegations of fraud against the state and sabotage of the traffic light system.

On August 7, the corresponding communication was formally submitted, accompanied by the official invitation and the conference agenda, documenting the reasons and the institutional nature of this commitment.

Through a series of posts on his X account, Pimentel explained that his absence was due to his participation in the Annual Conference of the Inter-American Network of Governmental Procurement (RICG). He is representing the Directorate General of Public Procurement and the Dominican Republic at the event, where he is also a panelist.

His performance before justice has always been marked by collaboration, responsibility, and transparency.

Pimentel emphasized that his participation in the conference coincided with the scheduled court date. He asserted that his excuse was formally submitted to the court on August 7, accompanied by an official invitation and the conference agenda, documenting the institutional nature of his commitment. He reiterated his consistent cooperation, responsibility, and transparency with the justice system in corruption cases.

We will be present in all instances where our participation is required, providing the information and testimony that corresponds.

Despite his commitment to international duties, Pimentel stressed that public service also requires fulfilling institutional obligations abroad. He assured that he would attend all judicial instances requiring his presence, providing necessary information and testimony. The court had issued an order for witnesses who failed to appear, but the trial was postponed to September 3 due to another defendant's lack of legal representation.
