Dominican Republic court to rule on dismissal of corruption charges against ex-AG Jean Alain Rodríguez

The Dominican Republic's judicial system is set to decide on August 12 whether to dismiss the criminal charges against former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez. Rodríguez, who served from 2016 to 2020, stands accused of administrative corruption and allegedly embezzling over 6 billion pesos through fraudulent processes.

The decision rests with the Second Collegiate Court of the National District, comprised of judges Claribel Nivar, Clara Castillo, and Yissell Soto. They will consider Rodríguez's petition to dismiss the charges after hearing arguments from the prosecution and the defense. The prosecution, represented by Wilson Camacho, director of Persecution of the Public Ministry, expressed confidence in their case.

Camacho stated that the Public Ministry is prepared to present its accusation and assured that Rodríguez will be overwhelmed by the evidence. He suggested Rodríguez's request for dismissal is an attempt to avoid this.
