Dominican Republic's 'Bono a Mil' Aids Nearly 484,000 Families for School Year

Nearly half a million families in the Dominican Republic have benefited from the "Bono a Mil" program, receiving over 1.25 billion pesos to support student attendance and retention in schools. Minister of Education Luis Miguel De Camps announced that 483,862 families have been reached by this initiative.

During the first "LA Agenda Semanal" broadcast, hosted by President Luis Abinader, De Camps stated that 58% of the allocated funds had already been deposited into the accounts of beneficiary families as of Sunday. He urged those who had not yet collected their funds to do so promptly to cover expenses related to the start of the school year.

The bonus seeks to bring tranquility to the population and is delivered from August to January. Currently, 58% of that amount is in the accounts of the beneficiary families. We are talking about 483,862 families that yesterday Sunday already had their resources.

The education authorities also reviewed preparations for the 2026-2027 school year, confirming that required teachers and non-teaching staff have been identified nationwide. Over 8,000 educational centers are prepared to accommodate more than two million students. Additionally, hundreds of school transport units have been incorporated to facilitate student mobility.

The "Bono a Mil" program, distributed between August and January, aims to provide financial relief to families, thereby reducing barriers to consistent school attendance.
