Donald Trump suggests renaming the Strait of Hormuz the “Trump Strait”

Donald Trump has suggested giving the Strait of Hormuz his own name. “Now that we control it, should we rename the Strait of Hormuz ‘Trump Strait’?” the U.S. president wrote on his Truth Social platform.

The suggestion appeared in a roundup of other international developments. In Iceland, euroskeptics reportedly prevailed in a closely fought referendum, with voters rejecting the resumption of negotiations with the European Union after a tense night and strong turnout.

Trump also announced what he called “the greatest oil deal in world history” between the United States and Venezuela. The agreement would develop 17 strategic fields with a stated potential of 65 billion barrels of oil, alongside more than $100 billion in investment and over $209 billion in tax revenue for the Venezuelan state.

Separately, The Telegraph reported that Washington could stop supporting Britain’s sovereignty over the Falkland Islands as Trump sought to pressure Prime Minister Andy Burnham to increase defense spending. The report said the United States had not ruled out any option.
