Dong Nai completes DNA testing of martyrs' remains, over four months ahead of schedule

Dong Nai province has successfully completed the crucial task of collecting DNA samples from the remains of fallen soldiers, achieving this milestone more than four months ahead of its planned schedule. This significant accomplishment is part of a broader national effort to identify and provide proper recognition for soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence.

Provincial authorities reported that the DNA sample collection process has been meticulously carried out across all 12 cemeteries within the province. This initiative is a key component of the "500 Days and Nights" campaign, a nationwide drive aimed at locating, collecting, and identifying the remains of martyrs. To date, Dong Nai has collected 104 sets of remains, with 62 recovered from Cambodia and the remainder found within the province.

Initially projected to conclude by December 31, 2026, the DNA sample collection was completed by August 15. This accelerated progress involved the exhumation of over 7,400 graves, of which more than 4,580 were deemed suitable for DNA sample extraction. The early completion underscores the dedication and efficiency of the teams involved.

Nguyen Thi Hoang, Vice Chairwoman of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee and head of the provincial steering committee for martyr remains identification, praised the efforts of all involved. She highlighted that the early completion of this task reflects the generation's commitment to honoring the immense contributions of the martyrs. The province also recognized outstanding individuals and collectives with commendations for their exceptional work in this sensitive and vital mission.
