Dong Nai Province Meets Criteria for City Status, Poised for Growth

Dong Nai province is on the cusp of a significant transformation, officially recognized as a Type 1 urban area by the Ministry of Construction. This designation is a crucial step towards its elevation to city status, marking a new era for this economically vital region.

The province has meticulously fulfilled all seven stringent criteria required for city establishment. These include having a substantial natural area of over 12,000 km², a significant urban population, a high urbanization rate, and meeting the standards of a Type 1 urban center. Furthermore, its strategic location within the Southern Key Economic Region and its role in national development plans have been affirmed.

Dong Nai's economic prowess is undeniable. Projections for 2025 estimate its GRDP to reach over 677 trillion VND, ranking it fourth nationally. Its budget revenue is expected to exceed 102 trillion VND, with per capita GRDP reaching approximately 152.8 million VND, contributing significantly to the national GDP.

The strategic importance of Dong Nai cannot be overstated. Its position as a gateway to Ho Chi Minh City and its role in connecting the Southeast region with the Central Highlands and South Central Coast are vital. The development of the Long Thanh International Airport, slated for partial operation by late 2026, is poised to be a major catalyst for the province's future growth, transforming it into a leading aviation and logistics hub in Southeast Asia.
