Donghaeng Lottery hosts Asia-Pacific lottery conference in Seoul after 11 years

Seoul is hosting the Asia-Pacific Lottery Association’s annual conference for the first time in 11 years, with Donghaeng Lottery and APLA jointly convening the event at the Walkerhill Hotel through the fourth.

Around 200 participants from Asia-Pacific lottery operators, South Korea’s gambling industry and related institutions are expected to attend. The conference first came to Seoul in 2015 and later moved to Auckland, Bangkok and Singapore.

This year’s theme is “Sustainable Gaming and Innovation, New Trends.” Discussions will address the adoption of innovative technology in the lottery sector, blockchain applications, responsible gambling policies and practices, and developments in global lottery markets.

Through this conference, we plan to share the operating experience of South Korea’s lottery industry and examine cases from other countries.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to include Cho Yong-beom, vice minister of the Ministry of Planning and Budget and chair of the Lottery Commission; Jason Dellamore, chair of the APLA executive committee; and Hong Deok-ki, chief executive of Donghaeng Lottery. Academic sessions will run for two days from the second, bringing together experts from Korean and overseas lottery and related institutions.

South Korean participants will present the country’s lottery industry, its development and policies aimed at promoting a healthy lottery culture. Exhibitions will trace the industry’s progress and display cloud systems, lottery terminals and related solutions. Visitors will also be offered Korean food, performances and cultural programmes, including a gayageum performance, a ballet performance featuring the traditional Korean hat known as a gat, K-pop, and visits to Changdeokgung Palace and traditional markets.

Hong said the conference would allow South Korea to share its operating experience, examine practices from other countries and expand international exchange and cooperation.
