Doosan Bears' Young Talent Fuels Resurgence with 'Hwasubun Baseball'

The Doosan Bears are reigniting their "Hwasubun baseball" spirit, climbing to fourth place in the KBO league with a 53-45 record as of August 11. The team is in close contention for a playoff spot, trailing third-place LG by 1.5 games and leading fifth-place KIA by 0.5 games.

This resurgence is largely attributed to the exceptional performance of the team's young infielders, led by second-year player Park Jun-soon. The 20-year-old infielder boasts an impressive .332 batting average, with 16 home runs and 53 RBIs in just 277 at-bats. Despite missing some games due to a thigh injury, Park leads the team in both home runs and RBIs.

Park's development has been remarkable, especially his power hitting. Last year, he hit only 4 home runs in 91 games, but this season he has already recorded 16 home runs in 69 games. His slugging percentage has also significantly improved from .379 last year to .588 this season. He recently hit a game-winning three-run homer, his fifth in the last 15 games, and holds the record for the youngest player with double-digit RBIs in a season.

Other young talents are also contributing to the Bears' success. Outfielder Kim Min-seok, acquired in a trade last season, is leading the team with a .317 batting average among qualified hitters. Kim Dae-han, once dubbed the "Hwimun High School Ohtani," recently hit his first career multi-homer game. Catcher Yoon Jun-ho is sharing catching duties with veteran Yang Eui-ji after returning from military service. The team's average age is 27.4, the youngest in the league, reflecting a renewed focus on developing young talent under hitting coach Lee Jin-young.
