Dora Šarić: 'Vukovar Film Festival will surely surprise me with its film selection'

Dora Šarić, an emerging Croatian artist known professionally as Dora Barker, will serve as a juror at the 20th Vukovar Film Festival, scheduled to take place from September 2 to 5, 2026. The festival, a significant event in Croatia's cinematic calendar, retains its traditional late-summer slot.

Šarić brings a diverse artistic background to the jury. Having developed a passion for photography in her childhood, she has successfully integrated photography, film, and digital media into her career. She holds degrees in film, television, and multimedia design, as well as a master's degree in film and television directing and production. Her photographic and film projects have gained recognition both domestically and internationally.

It is a great honor for me, films are an important part of my life, education, and professional career, so I am very glad to be in the role of this year's jury, it means a lot to me.

Festival organizers highlighted Šarić's dedication to her craft, noting her particular focus on light, aesthetics, and emotional expression within her work. Although she resides in Zagreb, she cites Dubrovnik as her primary source of inspiration. Šarić is adept both behind and in front of the camera, recognized for her distinct style, creativity, and commitment.

Reflecting on her role, Šarić expressed that being part of the jury is a significant honor. She emphasized her ability to maintain an objective perspective when evaluating films, stating, "My personal authorial sensibility and style are not key in assessing someone else's film; I would say I have a great ability for objective assessment and analysis of why a work is considered good and what we can appreciate in it, not necessarily something I would ever do myself."
