Douglas, Marshall add to medal tally at WU20

Jamaica's medal count at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, rose to five following strong performances on Saturday. Shanoya Douglas clinched a silver medal in the women's 200m, her second medal of the championships after also taking silver in the 100m. She finished behind American Mia Maxwell, whose winning time was a personal best and championship record. Tiana Marshall added a bronze in the 100m hurdles, matching her personal best with a time of 12.97 seconds. The Jamaican Mixed 4x100m relay team set a new national record of 41.92 seconds, improving on their semifinal time, but ultimately placed fifth. Italy set a World Under-20 record to win the relay, with Great Britain and the USA taking silver and bronze respectively. Other Jamaican athletes also competed, with Gary Card finishing sixth in the men's 200m, David Brown ninth in the men's high jump, and Jahvanie Tyrell and Shevaughn Thomas qualifying for the men's and women's 400m hurdles finals, respectively, after setting personal bests.

Marshall was ecstatic over her bronze in a close 100m hurdles final, where she equaled her personal best 12.97 seconds (-0.2m/s) with American Madeline Cooper running a World Under-20 leading 12.91 seconds with South Africa’s Tumi Ramokgopa taking silver with 12.96 seconds.
