Four Jamaicans advance to 200m semis at World U-20 Championships

Jamaica's sprinting prowess was on full display at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, as all four Jamaican competitors successfully advanced to the semi-finals of the 200m event. Shanoya Douglas and Sashana Johnson spearheaded the women's charge with impressive sub-23.00-second performances.

Douglas, already a silver medalist in the 100m, comfortably won her heat in 22.88 seconds. She is aiming for another 200m medal, having secured bronze at the previous championships. Johnson, meanwhile, broke the 23-second barrier for the first time, clocking a personal best of 22.95 seconds to win her heat.

On the men's side, Gary Card, a 100m silver medalist, faced an initial disqualification for a lane violation. However, Jamaican officials lodged a successful appeal, leading to his reinstatement. Card finished second in his heat with a time of 20.76 seconds. Nathaniel Martin also secured an automatic semi-final spot by finishing third in his heat.

The semi-finals for the 200m are scheduled for Friday, with the finals set to take place on Saturday, the penultimate day of the championships. The performances underscore Jamaica's continued strength in track and field at the junior level.
