DPP to review Maharaj bail application

The Suva Magistrates Court has granted the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions time to review a bail variation application filed by Zoe Maharaj. Maharaj, one of two individuals accused of possession of methamphetamine and an explosive device, is seeking the variation on medical grounds.

She intends to undergo a medical procedure to remove a mass located in her abdomen. The court has issued a remand warrant, keeping Maharaj in custody for an additional 14 days while her application is considered.

In a separate development, the second accused, Ledua Gudru, failed to appear before the court on the morning of the hearing. Consequently, a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest, indicating a failure to comply with court orders.

The case, which involves allegations of possession of illicit substances and an explosive device, has been adjourned to August 20th. This continuation will allow for the review of Maharaj's application and address Gudru's absence.
