DPR asks Bank Mandiri for explanation on blocked activist accounts in Pati

Indonesia's Parliament (DPR) plans to formally request an explanation from Bank Mandiri concerning the recent blocking of bank accounts belonging to activists from the Pati region. The move comes after a meeting between parliamentary officials and representatives from the Forum Komunikasi Rakyat Pati.

Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal, indicated that the parliament will engage directly with the bank to understand the basis for these account closures. "We will later confirm with the banking sector, why the blocking was carried out. It could be that if there are indications, the transfer traffic is dangerous or what the source is like, we will ask Bank Mandiri later," Syamsurizal stated.

Bank Mandiri is part of the state-owned banking group Himbara. Syamsurizal stressed that no conclusions have been drawn yet regarding the reasons behind the blocking. The DPR's objective is to obtain a direct explanation from the banking institution regarding the specific grounds for freezing the activists' accounts. The parliament aims to clarify whether any suspicious financial activities or potential risks were identified by the bank that necessitated such action.
