Dramatic rescue: Survivors pulled from Nepal hydropower tunnel

Nepalese army rescuers dramatically pulled two mud-covered survivors from a hydropower tunnel in Rasuwa on Friday. Video released by the army shows rescue teams hauling the men over slippery, debris-strewn ground before carrying them on their backs down a steep slope.

The army stated that the challenging terrain and hazardous conditions significantly complicated the complex rescue operation. This effort came as rescue operations intensified around hydropower projects in Rasuwa, an area heavily impacted by recent floods.

Several hydropower projects are located on the Trishuli River in the affected Rasuwa region. Earlier reports indicated that 60 employees were missing from one under-construction hydropower project after floods caused severe damage. In a separate incident, at least nine employees from two South Korean energy companies working on a hydroelectric plant along the river were reported missing.

Overall, devastating floods in Nepal have claimed at least 489 lives, with an additional 1,300 people still unaccounted for, according to authorities. Among the missing tourists is a Serbian national, Enisa Leković.
