DRC dominates African Boxing Championship Zone 3 with 15 medals, including 11 gold

The Democratic Republic of Congo's boxing team, known as the "Léopards," has once again asserted its dominance on the continental stage. They clinched the top spot at the African Boxing Championship Zone 3, which concluded on Sunday, July 5, at the Sports Palace in Libreville, Gabon.

The Congolese boxers achieved an outstanding haul of 15 medals, comprising 11 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze. This remarkable performance placed them significantly ahead of competitors, including the host nation Gabon, as well as Cameroon and Congo-Brazzaville. The results solidify the DRC's current leadership in boxing within the sub-region, attributed to a generation of talented, determined, and well-prepared pugilists.

Individual gold medals were awarded to Merveille Mbalayi (-66kg), Jorbelle Malewu, Ruth Yanfu, Bénédicte Diyoka (-50kg), Deborah Bisambu (-54kg), Ilunga Kabange (-54kg), Joseph Disasi (-71kg), Mabela Bofenda (-51kg), Ilunga Musuasua, William Mbangi (-92kg), and Dieu Donné Mukuasa (-86kg). These athletes distinguished themselves through their technical skill and fighting spirit in the ring.

Monique Bampala (-66kg) and Modestine Zalia earned silver medals, contributing to the delegation's overall success. Bronze medals were secured by Manisca Bayiso and Othniel Muanda (-75kg), who also proudly represented their nation throughout the tournament. The Léopards return to Libreville with honors, having confirmed their supremacy over the best selections in Zone 3, further affirming the DRC's status as a major force in African boxing.
