Driver crashes into utility pole after bee sting as hiker is stung dozens of times

Bee-sting accidents occurred across South Korea’s Gyeonggi region over the weekend. In Yeoju, a man in his 60s drove a truck into a utility pole after saying he had been stung by bees before getting behind the wheel.

The crash trapped both of his knees between the steering wheel and the seat. Emergency responders took him to a nearby hospital.

In Yangju, a woman in her 60s reported being stung 30 to 40 times by ground bees while hiking. The attack happened as she tried to move a rotten tree along the trail. She developed hives across her body and a feeling of heat, received emergency treatment at the scene, and was taken to hospital.

Fire authorities said bee-sting incidents occur most often from July through September and urged hikers, people clearing vegetation and farm workers to wear protective equipment and follow safety precautions.
