Heavy Rain Brings Fallen Trees and Flooded Roads Across South Chungcheong

Heavy rain in South Chungcheong brought down trees and flooded roads, but authorities reported no casualties.

The South Chungcheong Fire Department received 17 rain-related damage reports by 10 a.m. on June 31. The first came around midnight from a road in Janghang-eup, Seocheon, where water had accumulated because drainage failed.

Most of the reports involved fallen trees or flooded roads. Daejeon recorded five similar cases, while Sejong reported none.

People should pay particular attention to flooding in low-lying areas and overflowing rivers, as riverside walking trails may leave people isolated.

Heavy rain advisories remain in effect for Daejeon, Sejong and South Chungcheong. Rain clouds forming over the Yellow Sea continue to move into the region, bringing about 5 millimeters of rain per hour. By 9 a.m., rainfall totals included 76.5 millimeters in Yeonmu, Nonsan, 65.5 millimeters in Yanghwa, Buyeo, and 55 millimeters at O-World in Daejeon.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast 20 to 30 millimeters of rain per hour in the late afternoon. It warned of flooding in low-lying areas, swollen rivers, reduced visibility and slippery roads, and urged caution near riverside trails that could become isolated.
