Driver faces detention request after fatal bus crash in Montenegro

Prosecutors in Kotor, Montenegro, have formally requested pretrial detention for a 68-year-old bus driver identified as M.LJ. following a severe traffic accident in Lipci. The incident, which occurred on July 12, involved a bus carrying passengers and resulted in the tragic death of one individual and injuries to 16 others.

The driver faces charges of "serious offenses against public safety in traffic." According to reports from RTCG, the bus he was operating was involved in the crash that claimed the life of S.J., a 21-year-old passenger from Niš, Serbia. Additionally, 16 passengers sustained physical injuries in the collision.

Among the injured, a ten-year-old boy is in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Clinical Center of Montenegro. Reports from RTS indicate his condition remains critical as medical staff work to stabilize him. The exact circumstances leading to the accident are under investigation, but the severity of the charges highlights the gravity of the incident.

The Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Kotor is seeking the driver's detention as part of the ongoing investigation into the crash. The legal proceedings will aim to determine responsibility and the sequence of events that led to the fatal outcome in Lipci.
