Driver Films Himself Laughing at Fatal Crash Scene, Later Calls Police Reporting Threats

A young man involved in a fatal car accident in Italy, who was filmed laughing and making light of the victim's death, has contacted the police reporting feeling threatened. The incident occurred when a crowd gathered outside his home, leading him to call emergency services.

The accident claimed the life of Sofia Barberi and left her friend, Elena B., in critical condition. Elena reportedly underwent a complex surgery and had a foot amputated. She remains in the intensive care unit at Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure, Savona, with a guarded prognosis.

Authorities are investigating the dynamics of the crash, which involved a young driver, reportedly a novice, who allegedly made an incorrect overtaking maneuver. The collision with the scooter carrying Sofia and Elena was violent, throwing both riders off and destroying their vehicle. The prosecutor's office in Savona has ordered an autopsy for Sofia Barberi.

He also offered thoughts to Elena, wishing her a recovery.
